About The Art of Joinery

Based in the upper Blue Mountains, The Art of Joinery is an acoustic duo whose individual parts are Chris Emmerson and Gaines Post. We perform a mix of original songs, covers, and instrumentals, and through all of it, our focus is on joining our respective sounds and musical minds synergistically—with the intention of producing a combined effect that is greater than the sum of its parts, not unlike kintsugi (金継ぎ, “golden joinery”) or rigorously-crafted woodworks.

More specifically, we are:

Chris Emmerson (vocals, piano, bass ukulele, guitar)

and Gaines Post (flute, vocals, guitar, violin).

This site is a work in progress, as The Art of Joinery is such a newly formed duo, this website is a work in progress!!! Apologies for any dead or erroneous links. I'll clean them up a.s.a.p. :-) Stay tuned!

About The Art of Joinery

Upcoming performances by The Art of Joinery:

On Sunday, the 8th of March, 2026, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m., The Art of Joinery will be playing at Side B Vinyl Bar in Blackheath, NSW. It's a great cocktail bar with food and other drinks, specialising in creating and finding the perfect vibe for the day via the venue's extensive record collection.

Later that month, on the 29th of March, we will be the musical guests for the March episode of The Soul Side TV show at On the Soul Side Café in Katoomba. Coffee shop by day, wine bar by night, with tons of live music. The owner, Dave Griffiths, is wonderfully supportive of local musicians.

On the 19th of June, we will be playing at The Factory Bar in north Katoomba. Great little neighbourhood bar. They make their own gin and vodka, and source locally as much as possible! There’s also good food to eat.

In addition, Chris performs regularly with his main band, Belly Affection; and Gaines performs locally here and there, including every Wednesday from 9:30 a.m. to about a quarter to noon at On the Soul Side Café in Katoomba. There is delicious coffee and cake and other goodies :-)

Enjoy, and we hope to see you soon! :-)

Recordings

The Art of Joinery hasn't done any studio recordings "as a band" (yet!), but the link below leads to our YouTube channel, in which you can find several videos of live shows, as well as some from an impromptu jam we did on flute and piano up at the Cultural Centre in Katoomba late last year.
